Success in the Lego Challenge

Beaumont students have achieved considerable success in the First Lego League – Hydrodynamics, London Regional Tournament. The competition involved designing, developing and building an autonomous robot which was then presented, along with a research project, to a panel of judges. Although the team of Year 11 students (comprising Ella Katz, Olivia Chrisp, Will Collins, Stefan Cayless and Salim Hanafi) were knocked out in the semi-final stage they, were awarded the prize for Robot Design. Thanks go to Dr Jones for organising and leading the school’s entry into this prestigious national competition.

Girls’ Football victories

Congratulations to our under 16 and under 15 Girls Football teams, who have both made it through to the last 16 of the English Schools FA Cup. Our under 15 team won their last 32 tie vs. Marlborough School (Oxfordshire) 6-0, with Hannah McCorkindale Brown and Millie Constantine both getting a hat trick.nOur under 16 team won through with a dramatic late win vs. Sandringham School. Two nil down, with 15 minutes to go, the team came back fantastically, with Hannah McCorkindale Brown scoring twice to level the game, before Chelsea Howcutt scored a contender for goal of the season in the last minute.

Well done to both teams, who should be incredibly proud of their achievements so far. Thank you to Mrs. Gallagher for providing the photos with this article from the under 16 game vs. Sandringham School. Good luck in the next round!

BSA Christmas Fair

Parents, students and staff got together to celebrate the Beaumont Christmas spirit at the BSA Christmas Fair. There was a range of stalls (including the ever-popular bottle tombola!) and activities for young and old, with students running House stalls to help raise money as well as earn points for their respective Houses. All the funds raised will go to supporting the school. Thanks, as ever, go to the BSA Committee for its work to make this event such a success each year.

Prince’s Trust presentation

Sixth Form students and Chair of the BSA, Wendy Cooper, have presented Steve Lindsay of the Prince’s Trust with a £1500 donation. The money was raised at this year’s Rob’s Festival, which took place in the Summer Term. The 2018 festival promises to be a special one as we’ll be celebrating the school’s 80th anniversary.

GCSE Presentation Evening, 21.11.17

Proud parents looked on as last year’s Year 11 students received their examination certificates in a formal ceremony last week. The presentations were made by Beaumont alumni Jack and Joe Madley who shared their pathways since leaving Beaumont which have culminated in their writing, appearing in and directing a video for the Czech, avant garde, “future pop” artist, Boris Carloff!

Alongside the presentation of GCSE and BTec certificates, four trophies were awarded: Outstanding Academic Achievement (presented to Isobel Todd), Outstanding Contribution to the Community (nominated by Beaumont staff and presented to Beth Hardisty), Outstanding Contribution to the School (nominated by last year’s Year 11 Pastoral Team and presented to Annabel Jones) and the Headteacher’s Award which was nominated by the students themselves and presented to Emma Cox.

Author Ali Sparkes visits the school

Award-winning author, Ali Sparkes, visited Beaumont to talk to students in Years 7 and 8 about her life and work.  Ali worked as a journalist and BBC broadcaster before she became a freelance writer. She grew up adoring adventure stories about kids who mess about in the woods and still likes to mess about in the woods herself whenever possible.  Ali’s stories capture the imagination of children everywhere and her novel Frozen in Time won the Blue Peter Book of the Year Award in 2010. Find out more about Ali and her books at www.alisparkes.com.

Inter-House Bake-Off

Students (no doubt with a little help from home!) have been baking cakes, biscuits and other sweet treats for the Great Beaumont Inter-House Bake-Off, 2017. Based around their House colours and the great people after which their Houses are named, students showed great flair and ingenuity in outdoing the successful offerings from previous years. Mr Atkinson judged the winning entries before students were allowed into the Hall to buy the cakes, with the money raised going towards the “80 in ’18” school appeal.

U15 Girls’ Football Victory

The Girls’ Under-15 Football team has scored an impressive 2:0 victory over Shenfield High School to put it into the last 64 teams in the English FA Cup.  The two goal scorers were Hannah McCorkindale-Brown and Millie Constantine.

48hr Musical

Starting after school on Friday 13th October, the combined Drama and Music departments staged a one-off performance of The Sound of Music on the evening of 15th October. Cast and crew worked tirelessly over the two days to create props and staging for the sell-out show. Such is the involvement of students in these shows that there featured two complete inter-changing casts of von Trapp families and two Marias!
