Year 11 Graduation Ceremony

Ms Wilson and the Year 11 Tutor Team have hosted a grand Graduation Ceremony for the ‘Class of 2019’ and their parents. After an introduction from Mr Atkinson, Ms Wilson introduced the “Year 11 montage” of images taken since the cohort were in Year 7, at events such as Sports Days, field trips and CED activities. Then, each Form Tutor introduced the members of their forms and two representatives from each Tutor Group provided reminiscences from the past five years. Students also provided musical performances at intervals through the evening.

After the ceremonies, students, parents and staff had refreshments in the Sixth Form Centre.

International success in Computer Programming

Congratulations to Year 13 student, Zak Smith, who will be representing the UK in the International Olympiad in Informatics this August, in Azerbaijan. To join the team of four, he successfully competed in the three-day national computer programming final at Trinity College, Cambridge.

Success in the Biology Olympiad

Year 13 students have achieved success in the British Biology Olympiad. This is an international competition, organised by The Royal Society of Biology, which challenges and stimulates students with an interest in Biology to expand and extend their talents. It enables students to demonstrate their knowledge and to be suitably rewarded with publicly recognised certificates and medals.

Four ‘A’ level students were rewarded for their efforts: Olivia Lobue and Frankie Brown gained Bronze Awards and Jonny Light and Isobel Todd gained Gold Awards. Very well done to all those who participated!

Praise from the DfE

The Minister of State for School Standards, Nick Gibb MP, has written to Beaumont to congratulate us on our 2018 GCSE results which place Beaumont in the top 4% of state-funded, mainstream schools, in terms of student progress. He went on to praise the school for enabling 87% of our students to enter the EBacc subjects which ‘provide a sound basis for careers beyond the age of 16 and can also enrich pupils’ studies, giving them a broad general knowledge that will enable them to participate in and contribute to society’.

Planning for a Charity Colour Run

In September, we launched the Beaumont Leaders programme with Year 8 students. The idea behind the initiative is to develop leadership skills to provide students with work-related skills such as creativity, organisation and team-work, while also giving something back to the school community. Some of our Beaumont Leaders are working hard to organise a family Colour Run in aid of the Willow Foundation https://www.willowfoundation.org.uk/ which will be held on Saturday 8th June. Whole School production of ‘Grimm Tales’

This year’s whole school production was the imaginative version of ‘Grimm Tales’ written by Philip Pullman. Full of deliciously dark twists and turns, the Tales came to life through a bunch of players waiting backstage for their performance. Using ropes, hatstands, umbrella’s and brooms the bright and magical cast performed familiar favourites – Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Hansel & Gretel – and some unexpected ones too, such as Hans-My-Hedgehog, Thousandfurs and The Donkey Cabbage. There was live modern music to add a twist to the stories; twinkly lights and much, much laughter from all. Well done to the cast and crew of ‘Grimm Tales’!
