National Schools Theatre Awards
‘The Red Shoes’ written by Anna Maria Murphy and Kneehigh Theatre, is a story in one act. It is a mischievous adventure of storytelling, dance, music and magic. A perfect performance choice for the Upper School Drama students, who performed their version of this, directed by Mrs Wallace, Head of Drama, in November 2023.
The audience joined the company of young actors in the story that danced into their hearts, as they were immersed into the brave production that was both joyful and imaginative.
This production was entered into the 2024 National School Theatre Awards, which is a platform for Performing Arts educators to showcase the brilliance of young people and the work that they create. We were given the opportunity to nominate individual students and the production as a whole, into various categories. Then, we were lucky to have three of their Patrons come to the performance and adjudicate the show. Their review of the performance can be found here.
In January 2024, we were contacted by the Awards and invited to perform at the ceremony in June, taking place in London Theatre – what an amazing opportunity for our young performers.
