Literacy & Numeracy Catch Up: 2015-16

Beaumont School received £9500 additional funding for Year 7 literacy and numeracy catch up for the academic year 2015-16 for 19 eligible students.

This was spent on: a Transition Summer School, literacy withdrawal groups in Year 7, increasing TA support in Year 7 English lessons and on additional support for lower ability Maths.

The literacy withdrawal groups allow these students to work in small groups (between 2-4 students) to focus on spellings, grammar, sentence construction as well as reading. The groups follow a set programme called Fresh Start.

The TA support in English lessons allows students to have further support in literacy within the curriculum, allowing them to access the work and develop their literacy further.

All students also follow the Accelerated Reader (AR) programme within English lessons. TA support in these lessons allows these students to have further support in their reading. The AR programme allows students to track their progress within the programme.

The Maths groups are smaller than all other groups (between 10-15 students). This also has extra TA support allowing for more individualised work and support.

NUMERACY:

The school had 13 students who had either been disapplied from SATS or achieved Level 3 or below.

Out of the 13 students, five have made one whole NC Level or more increase; six have made two-thirds of a Level progress and three made one-third of a Level progress. Seven out of the 13 are now working at a Level 4.

LITERACY:

The school had 12 students who had either been disapplied from SATS or achieved Level 3 or below.

Out of the 12 students, three have made two NC Levels progress; five have made one whole Level or more increase; one has made two-thirds of a Level progress; one has made one-third of a Level progress and two have maintained their Level. Six out of the 12 are now working at a Level 4 or above.

This academic Year the school will be receiving £9500.

This money will continue to fund the literacy withdrawal groups, focusing on the Fresh Start programme, TA support in English lessons, smaller Maths sets and general support in Maths.
